My focus for my final project is the film Rear Window. I chose to do this because I enjoy learning about movies from the 50s and 60s, especially works by Alfred Hitchcock. I also chose to do this because Rear Window is a movie about a photographer. My grandmother introduced me to old movies so I'm using pictures of her in my mixed media piece. It's also why the black and white print is a picture of her.

Rear Window is about a man named Jeff who has broken his leg and now has to sit around in his apartment because he cannot move. While he is bored, he starts to watch the neighbors that live in the apartment complex across from him. Throughout the movie this originally slightly creepy activity evolves into Jeff becoming what used to be known as a "peeping tom". Throughout the movie, the audience gradually becomes more acquainted with the seven neighbors that Jeff spies on. Although Jeff never interacts with any of the neighbors, the audience still gains knowledge on the neighbor's personality due to the masterful visual communication that director Alfred Hitchcock included. The visuals of the neighbors that are shown to the audience allowing them to meet a total of seven neighbors...

This is my original sketch

My idea is to make a mixed media piece of the apartment complex that Jeff's neighbors live in. Each window will provide a glance into each of the neighbor's personality.

The issue with this idea is how I'm going to incorporate pictures that I take into it.

Basically, I will take pictures of my grandmother (the person who introduced me to this movie) and she will pose like the different neighbors. I will then print the pictures out in color and add layers on top of the pictures to dress her up like the different characters.

My goals are to make the clothes out of fabric, paint the background of the rooms, and possibly use some wallpaper.

These are the pictures that I took of my grandmother. I decided to combine them into one picture in order to make sure that the sizing is somewhat uniform.

I cut out and traced the pictures of my grandmother onto index cards, then I sketched how I wanted them to look onto the tracings.

After I finalize the sketches, I'm going to color the clothing with colored pencils, and possibly add fabric detail.
